2018 Stanley Cup Finals: Game 5
Smith-Pelly Ties It
Washington vs. Las Vegas
4 - 3
Leading the series 3-1, Washington was one win away from securing it's first ever Stanley Cup trophy. Losing by a goal with only 10 minutes left, Orpik threaded a pass through several Las Vegas players finding Smith-Pelly. Settling the puck off his left skate, DSP fell forward and reached out to slide the puck past Fleury to tie it up in the eventual Stanley Cup winning Game 5 victory.
2018 Eastern Conference Semifinals: Game 6
Kuznetsov's OT Winner
Washington vs. Pittsburgh
2 - 1
Despite winning the President's Trophy the two previous seasons, Washington had failed to advance from the second round since 1998, falling short the two previous years to Pittsburgh. In 2018, as a pivotal Game 6 in Pittsburgh went to OT, Kuznetsov scored through the five-hole to win the series. The victory sparked what would be a memorable run to Washington's first ever Stanley Cup victory and helped cement Ovechkin's legacy as one of the all-time greats.
2006 Regular Season
The Goal in Phoenix
Washington vs. Phoenix
6 - 1
January 16, 2006
Glendale Arena, Phoenix, AZ
Alex Ovechkin has had a number of amazing goals in his career, but this one versus Phoenix boggles the mind. Ovechkin raced down the ice, defended by Phoenix's Paul Mara, and manages to flick the puck into the net from the far side of the goal while falling down and rolling on the ice. Simply amazing.
1988 Patrick Division Semifinals: Game 7
Hunter's game-winner
Washington vs. Philadelphia
5 - 4
April 16, 1988
Capital Centre, Landover, MD
Washington had rallied from a 1 - 3 deficit in the Semifinals to force a Game 7. It was high scoring game with both teams netting 4 goals during regulation, and the game was forced into OT. Almost six minutes into OT Dale Hunter got a breakaway goal, out-racing three defenders to net this epic game-winner.
