The 6 teams that made up the league from 1942-1967: Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings. Though they weren't the "original" teams per se (the league saw many teams come and go from its birth in 1917 to the period of relative stability in '42)—they represent the most iconic era of major league hockey.
