The original Toronto NHL team. From 1917-1919, Toronto's NHL team was called the Toronto Arenas. Before they became the St. Pats in 1919, and before they were the Maple Leafs in 1927, they were the Arenas. The Toronto Arena played at Arena Gardens in Toronto on Mutual Street—where they played as the St. Pats and Maple Leafs until Maple Leaf Gardens was built in 1931.
The Toronto Arenas wore the same colours as today's Maple Leafs: blue and white. (They would switch to green and white when they became the St. Pats in 1919.) The Arenas logo was first just a T—a white T on a blue sweater, then the word "ARENAS" was added to the logo.
The SPORT Gallery is dedicated to keeping the history of sport alive, and resurrecting historical sports teams and logos on high quality, fashionable, officially licensed styles.
